TechOKI has signed a contract with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to supply OQQ-25 towed sonar systems and related equipment for the first three of Australia's 11 planned next-generation multi-purpose frigates, based on Japan's upgraded Mogami-class (06FFM). The Australian government selected the design in August 2025, and this marks OKI's first overseas equipment transfer project. The OQQ-25 system is already integrated on Japanese Mogami-class destroyers. Australia's Hunter-class frigates, specializing in ASW, will use Thales' CAPTAS-4 sonar, raising questions about multi-static ASW integration between the two different sonar systems. The first frigate delivery is expected in 2029 under the SEA 3000 program.
