TechNavantia, the Spanish shipbuilder, conducted the first static dive of the S82 'Narciso Monturiol', the second submarine in the S80 series for the Spanish Navy, on Tuesday near La Algameca Naval Base in Cartagena. The test verified hull behavior, ballast tank flooding, and static stability ahead of submerged navigation trials. The S80 program, comprising four submarines, is progressing on schedule. In July, diesel engines were installed aboard the third submarine, S83 'Cosme García', which includes three generator sets, a main electric motor, and an anaerobic air-independent propulsion (AIP) system. Navantia Chairman Ricardo Domínguez stated the program is contributing to Spain's strategic submarine autonomy and industrial technological capabilities.
