SportsHockey India President Dilip Tirkey has stated in an internal email that the decision to change the Indian hockey team's traditional blue jerseys to saffron for the upcoming World Cup was taken without his knowledge or Executive Board discussion. The change, announced on July 27, has drawn sharp criticism from former players who say it undermines the team's identity. Secretary Bhola Nath Singh insists all officials were aware and that the change was a player-driven technical decision to avoid visual clash with blue turf. Tirkey has requested a written clarification from HI officials, noting that the Odisha government, the team's primary sponsor, has also sought an explanation. Singh says the matter needs further discussion among office-bearers.
