US Coast Guard seizes 2,380 lbs of marijuana near Bahamas

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Charles Sexton, in coordination with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, seized an estimated 2,380 pounds of suspected marijuana worth approximately $2.8 million near Great Inagua, Bahamas. The interdiction occurred about 80 miles southwest of Great Inagua, where 97 bales of suspected marijuana were discovered aboard a suspected drug-smuggling vessel. Three individuals on the vessel were transferred to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for prosecution. The operation was carried out under the Homeland Security Cutter-Ocean initiative, which uses commercially operated vessels to provide logistical support to Coast Guard cutters, allowing them to remain at sea longer. Lt. Peter Fager, commanding officer of the Charles Sexton, highlighted the strength of the partnership with Bahamian authorities in combating transnational organized crime and protecting maritime borders.
