The Srikakulam district administration in Andhra Pradesh will operate 737 buses to transport residents to the inauguration of Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1, 2026, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a public meeting. District Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar announced that an exclusive control room will monitor bus movements and facilities, with LED screens displaying drone visuals of the new airport. TDP and BJP leaders highlighted that the airport will reduce travel distance from Srikakulam to 45 km (from the previous need to go to Visakhapatnam) and is expected to spur industrial development along National Highway 16, particularly in the Bhogapuram-Pydibhimavaram-Etcherla stretch, which already hosts multinational bulk drug industries and will gain an aviation university and a Reliance data centre.

Srikakulam District Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar announced on Thursday (July 30, 2026) that 737 buses would be operated from various parts of the district to the international airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district on August 1, 2026. He stated that the district administration had made elaborate arrangements for breakfast and lunch for residents attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting at the airport premises on Saturday.
- An exclusive control room has been set up to monitor bus movement and facilities for Srikakulam residents.
- LED screens have been installed at various locations to inform the public about the new airport’s facilities.
- Mr. Pundkar noted that drone visuals displayed on these screens on Wednesday had drawn appreciation from the public.
Political Leaders Hail Airport’s Benefits
Meanwhile, TDP leaders in Srikakulam district expressed jubilation over the construction of the Bhogapuram airport. Andhra Pradesh Kalinga Komati Corporation Chairman and senior TDP leader Boina Govindarajulu said the airport was completed quickly due to the persistent follow-up by Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, who is the Srikakulam Lok Sabha MP.
He highlighted that the airport would significantly benefit air travellers:
- Previously, residents had to travel to Visakhapatnam for air travel.
- Now, the distance from Srikakulam to the new airport is only 45 km.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA of the Etcherla Assembly constituency N. Eswara Rao stated on Thursday that the Bhogapuram-Pydibhimavaram stretch would become a major industrial and economic hub of Andhra Pradesh, as the distance between the two locations is barely 20–25 km. Along with other public representatives, he visited the airport premises and reviewed food and other arrangements for attendees on August 1, 2026.
“Bhogapuram, Pydibhimavaram and Etcherla are on the same stretch of National Highway 16. The stretch is already known for multinational bulk drug industries in Pydibhimavaram and the surrounding areas. Now, the airport, an aviation university and the Reliance data centre will ensure the quick development of the region. The established civic infrastructure on this stretch will help people settle here happily,” Mr. Eswara Rao said.
