The Indian men's and women's hockey teams will wear saffron jerseys instead of their traditional blue kits at the upcoming FIH World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium. Hockey India unveiled the new design, stating that the blue uniforms blended with the standard blue synthetic playing surface, affecting player visibility. The saffron color was chosen after consultations with players and coaches, and is described as symbolizing courage, sacrifice, and national pride. The jersey also features Mandala patterns, Ashoka Chakra-inspired navy accents, and tricolour piping. Former national team captain Viren Rasquinha criticized the change as 'embarrassing,' arguing that blue is the team's legacy and identity, comparable to Argentina's football jersey. Hockey India defended the move as a technical necessity and a tribute to national symbols.
