The Berlin techno parade 'Zug der Liebe,' scheduled for August 29, has been canceled by its organizers due to a drastically changed security situation following a terrorist attack on the sidelines of Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Berlin. The attack, which occurred late Saturday evening near the Tiergarten, left one woman dead and 31 people injured, some seriously. The Islamist-motivated attacker was shot dead by police the next day. Organizers stated that new requirements—including immobilizers, personal checks, and heavily armed police—contradict the event's spirit of a carefree, fear-free protest space. While logistical issues with trucks and volume restrictions also played a role, the main reason was the 'noticeable change in the social climate.' Last year, the parade attracted around 10,000 participants. In contrast, the techno parade 'Rave the Planet,' planned for August 15, will proceed as scheduled, according to its founder Dr. Motte.

The Berlin techno parade "Zug der Liebe" will not take place at the end of August. Organizers cited a changed security situation and significantly stricter requirements following the attack on the sidelines of Christopher Street Day (CSD).
Cancellation Announcement
After the terrorist attack on the sidelines of CSD in Berlin, the techno parade planned for late August in the city center has been canceled.
"The recent events surrounding the CSD have drastically changed the situation," the organizers announced. The RBB first reported this.
While logistical bottlenecks existed—including issues with ordered trucks and no agreement yet reached with the assembly authority regarding volume—organizers stated: "But what made this decision inevitable is the noticeable change in the social climate."
Security Concerns
A parade this year would entail massive requirements, from immobilizers to personal checks to heavily armed police officers, the organizers explained. However, they noted that such measures do not fit the spirit of the event.
"The Zug der Liebe has always stood for a carefree, fear-free space of protest. A demonstration under the current general feeling of fear and such restrictive framework conditions fundamentally contradicts the basic idea of the event."
Event Background
The "Zug der Liebe" was scheduled to take place on August 29. Last year, around 10,000 participants marched through Berlin's city center to set a sign for tolerance, diversity, and solidarity.
"Rave the Planet" to Proceed
The techno parade "Rave the Planet," planned for August 15, is still set to take place, according to organizers speaking to RBB's "Abendschau."
"We thought a lot about it. We heard what the community wants," explained Matthias Roeingh, founder of the organization Rave The Planet, known as Dr. Motte. His wife Ellen Dosch-Roeingh assured: "The parade will take place."
The parade is planned between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column on Straße des 17. Juni, which runs through the Tiergarten—the park on the edge of which the fatal terrorist attack occurred late Saturday evening.
The Attack
One woman was killed and 31 people suffered injuries, some of them serious. The Islamist-motivated attacker was shot dead by police the following day during an attempted arrest.
