Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced that the club's offer for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez is not unlimited and will expire between the end of July and the beginning of August, specifically starting July 27. Laporta's statement comes amid firm opposition from Atlético Madrid, whose executive declared they would not sell Álvarez for any price. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is pushing for a quick resolution to know his squad, and the club claims to have a Plan B if the Álvarez deal falls through. The only potential change would be a new statement from Álvarez himself expressing a desire to leave Atlético.

Immediately after taking office again as club president, Joan Laporta sent a clear message regarding Barcelona's interest in Julián Álvarez: "We have made an offer, but this offer is not unlimited in time." Later, already in New York where he accompanied the Spanish national team in its last two World Cup matches, he set deadlines. "The offer's limit is between the last week of July and the first week of August."
Therefore, today, Monday, July 27, the deadline that the Barcelona president himself outlined begins. A limit defined more by sporting demands than by a negotiation tactic with Atlético de Madrid, a club that from the very start showed its firm opposition to selling the player. "If their offer is unlimited in time, our response is infinite. We are not selling Julián for 100, 150, or 200 million," said the Madrid club's executive.
From a sporting perspective, however, Flick is pushing to have his '9' as soon as possible, or at least to know which elements he will have available in the squad. The German does not want to wait until the last day of the transfer window to know who he can count on. In this regard, Barcelona claims they have a Plan B in case, as it seems, the Julián option fades away.

The only thing that could change the course of events would be a new statement from Julián reiterating his desire to leave Atlético de Madrid.
