Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré, a revelation of the season, is in advanced negotiations with Premier League club Brentford for a potential transfer fee of around €48 million. The 24-year-old Malian, who joined Lens from Rapid Vienna for €5M plus bonuses last summer, could become the club's record sale, surpassing Lois Openda's €40M move to Leipzig in 2023. Crystal Palace, coached by former Lens manager Pierre Sage, has also entered the bidding and may raise the offer. As of Tuesday evening, no deal was finalized but an agreement is nearing.
Source report
This could be one of the biggest transfers of the summer in Ligue 1. Lens' breakout midfielder Mamadou Sangaré (24) is in advanced talks with English club Brentford, who finished 9th in the Premier League last season.
For several weeks, Lens' management—fully aware of the Malian international's impact on the club's outstanding campaign—have been quietly negotiating with their English counterparts. Their objective is clear: only to part ways with the former Rapid Vienna player for a very substantial fee. Lens originally purchased Sangaré last summer for €5 million, plus €3 million in bonuses.
As of Tuesday evening, nothing had been finalized, but an agreement was drawing near. The proposed fee is in the region of €48 million.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace—the club of former Lens coach Pierre Sage—has also made a move and could raise the bid.
If completed, Sangaré would become the biggest sale in RC Lens' history, surpassing the €40 million transfer of Lois Openda to Leipzig in 2023.
