The Toronto Blue Jays and the baseball community are mourning the loss of another former member of the organization. Dave Morgan, a former catching and infield prospect who played six seasons in the Blue Jays' farm system, has died unexpectedly at the age of 54.

Kevin Glew reported for Cooperstown in Canada:

"Former Toronto Blue Jays catching and infield prospect Dave Morgan has died at the age of 54. Prior to his pro baseball career, Morgan was a standout football and baseball player at Harvard. Selected in the 18th round of the 1993 MLB draft by the Blue Jays, the Newton, Mass., native played six seasons in the organization... In 253 pro games, he batted .251 with 21 home runs."

This loss comes shortly after the baseball world learned of the death of former World Series champion pitcher Duane Ward earlier this month.

Harvard University Star and Ivy League Player of the Year

Morgan's baseball journey began as a standout high school athlete and continued with an exceptional collegiate career at Harvard University, where he established himself as one of the nation's top players.

According to a local obituary:

"As Harvard's first baseman, he was named the 1993 Ivy League Player of the Year before fulfilling a lifelong dream when he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft."

A Legacy Beyond Baseball

Though Morgan reached as high as the Double-A level during his professional career, his influence extended far beyond the diamond. After his playing days ended, he devoted much of his life to:

The obituary noted:
