Hugo Guillamón had a busy first day in Gijón as he officially joined Sporting Gijón. The 24-year-old midfielder passed his medical examination without issues, visited the Mareo training ground to sign a contract that ties him to the club until 2028, and then donned his kit to participate in the team's closed-door evening training session. Guillamón arrives on a free transfer from Croatian side HNK Hajduk Split, where he was a key player with 26 appearances. He previously spent most of his career at Valencia CF, playing 146 matches and scoring five goals. The Spanish midfielder also has international experience, having played three times for the senior national team, including at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and winning European Championships at U-17 and U-19 levels. Sporting fans view him as a major signing, bringing youth, hierarchy, and top-flight experience. He will have two weeks and three friendlies to acclimatize before the league season begins.
