Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service, achieved its first quarterly profit in Q2 2026, reporting $189 million in adjusted EBITDA on $1.9 billion in revenue. The milestone was driven by NBA playoff games, FIFA World Cup coverage, and reality TV programming, which added two million paid subscribers, bringing the total to 48 million. Comcast executives cautioned that profitability will vary quarter-to-quarter due to sports schedules and content costs. The service's dual-revenue model combining subscriptions and advertising fueled a 54% revenue increase, with advertising revenue up nearly 70%. The profit milestone comes as Comcast prepares to split into two companies, separating its internet and wireless services from NBCUniversal, Peacock, and Sky.

Six years after its launch, Peacock has recorded its first quarterly profit, fueled by NBA playoff games, FIFA World Cup coverage, and reality television. The milestone raises questions for parent company Comcast about whether the streaming service can sustain profitability amid a rapidly evolving sports broadcasting landscape.
Peacock Reaches Profitability
In the second quarter of 2026, Peacock generated $189 million in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) on $1.9 billion in revenue. The service also added 2 million paid subscribers, bringing its total to 48 million.
During a July 23 earnings call, Comcast executives described the result as a milestone but cautioned against overinterpreting a single quarter's performance, noting that earnings will continue to fluctuate based on sports schedules and content spending.
"As to Peacock profitability itself, we do expect it to continue to improve on an annual basis, but profitability is going to vary quarter by quarter," said Comcast Co-CEO Mike Cavanagh.
Cavanagh added that the results reflect Peacock's ability to attract subscribers around major events and retain them through broader programming.
Sports Drives Subscriber Growth
NBCUniversal launched Peacock in July 2020 as a free, advertising-supported extension of its television and film portfolio. The service eliminated its free tier in 2023 and expanded its sports offerings, including:
- The NFL's first streaming-exclusive playoff game
- Serving as NBCUniversal's streaming home for the 2024 Paris Olympics
- Coverage of the NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, and Premier League
Subscriptions and Advertising Fuel Growth
Comcast Chief Financial Officer Jason Armstrong attributed Peacock's recent success to its dual-revenue model, which combines subscriptions and advertising across sports, NBC and Bravo programming, films, news, and major events.
Key growth metrics from the quarter:
- Revenue increased 54%
- Distribution revenue grew more than 50%
- Advertising revenue rose nearly 70%
Comcast executives noted that Peacock's financial performance will continue to vary depending on the timing of events and associated costs.
Comcast Prepares to Split
Peacock's profit milestone arrives as Comcast prepares to split into two separate companies—one focused on internet and wireless services, and another built around NBCUniversal, Peacock, and Sky.
"This structure gives both companies the freedom to pursue the priorities that matter most to their futures," said Comcast Chairman and Co-CEO Brian Roberts during the earnings call.
