However, Malachi Sharpe had already started assessing opportunities elsewhere before his Old Trafford departure became official. Burnley previously handed him a trial in March. He featured for their Under-21 side during a 2–0 defeat against Brighton and played the opening 45 minutes. That opportunity did not lead to a permanent transfer.
Sharpe has now received another chance to impress at Colchester. The League Two club can assess the former United attacker before deciding whether to offer him a contract. Sharpe will hope his speed and direct playing style can earn him a fresh start after leaving Manchester United.
