TechU.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and the United Arab Emirates will establish Task Force Talon Synapse, the first bilateral task force focused on advancing military artificial intelligence applications. The unit, based in Abu Dhabi, will comprise approximately 20 American and Emirati personnel with expertise in AI, data, and cybersecurity. Its mission includes integrating AI into intelligence support, protecting critical infrastructure, and monitoring regional security. CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper called it a historic milestone, emphasizing rapid delivery of AI advancements to warfighters. The task force was discussed in 2025 by Cooper and UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who views AI adoption as a national responsibility. The UAE has pursued AI defense capabilities for nearly a decade, including a partnership with Anduril to co-produce autonomous drones. The announcement follows a March 2025 White House meeting between al-Nahyan and U.S. officials focusing on AI and emerging technology.
