Congress TPCC meet: Focus on voter enrolment, welfare outreach, MLC polls

The meeting reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and discussed measures to strengthen coordination between the party organisation and the government

HYDERABAD — The Congress has resolved to intensify voter enrolment efforts in Telangana, take the State government's welfare schemes to every household, and adopt a transparent process for selecting candidates for the upcoming Graduates MLC elections, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said after a Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Coordination Committee meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, Indira Bhavan, was chaired by AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and attended by:

• Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy
• TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud
• Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Raja Narasimha, and Seethakka
• AICC leaders Vamshi Chand Reddy and Sachin Sawant

Addressing the media after the meeting, Mr. Bhatti said the right to vote was the foundation of India's democracy and constitutional framework, and ensuring that every eligible citizen was enrolled remained a key objective for the party. He said the meeting reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and discussed measures to strengthen coordination between the party organisation and the government.

According to him, the Congress leadership expressed satisfaction over the work of the party's Booth Level Agents (BLAs) engaged in the voter enrolment exercise. Ms. Natarajan urged party functionaries to expedite the remaining registration process and ensure that no eligible voter was left out, he said.

Echoing the emphasis on voter enrolment, Mr. Goud directed party leaders and BLAs to remain vigilant as the first phase of the SIR process is expected to conclude within the next two or three days. He called upon party workers to closely monitor the exercise and ensure that every eligible citizen was able to exercise the franchise.

Mr. Goud also asked the cadre to prepare for the second phase of the revision programme by fully utilising district and mandal level office bearers and strengthening organisational mobilisation at the grass-roots level.

The coordination committee also drew up an action plan to improve public outreach on the Congress government's welfare and development initiatives. Mr. Vikramarka said the party would use its organisational network to disseminate information on flagship schemes and government programmes at the village and household level.

The meeting discussed preparations for the forthcoming Graduates MLC elections at length. The party decided to accelerate the enrolment of graduate voters and ensure transparency in selecting candidates. District in-charge ministers have been tasked with consulting District Congress Committee presidents, MLAs and senior party leaders before submitting panels of three prospective candidates to the party high command for consideration.

The meeting resulted in clear guidelines on voter registration, grassroots outreach and election preparedness, with an emphasis on closer coordination between the Congress organisation and the Telangana government.
