Maria Salgado's Performance
Salgado finished second in the sixth heat of the opening round with a total of 7.43 points (4.83 and 2.60 on her best waves). She advanced behind South African Sarah Baum, who scored 10.03 (6.00 and 4.03). Hawaiian Eweleiula Wong (7.30 points) and South African Louise Lepront (6.24 points) were eliminated.
After being eliminated in the first round at the Ballito Pro in South Africa, Salgado now advances to the round of 32. She will face Hawaiian Bettylou Sakura Johnson, Japanese Kana Nakashio, and Australian Sophie McCulloch.
Teresa Bonvalot
Winner of the Ballito Pro, Bonvalot was exempt from the first round. She will make her debut in heat 6 of the second round, immediately after Salgado, facing French surfer Vahine Fierro, South African Sarah Baum, and Australian Ziggy Aloha Mackenzie.
Francisca Veselko
Also exempt from the first round, Veselko is placed in the seventh heat against Spanish surfer Nadia Erostarbe, Australian Isla Huppatz, and Peruvian Daniella Rosas.
Men's Competition
No heats have yet been contested in the men's draw. Francisco Morais is included in the first heat of the opening round alongside Basque surfer Yago Domínguez, Spanish surfer Sean Gunning, and Brazilian Gabriel Klaussner.
With a direct entry into the round of 32, Guilherme Ribeiro will face Indonesian Rio Waida and Brazilian Weslley Dantas, as well as an opponent advancing from the first round.
