A nine-location Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers franchise group serving Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming has become the first quick-service restaurant franchise group—and the first company—to achieve Clean Hands Certification. The certification introduces a five-part operational standard for public restroom handwashing: touch-free soap, touch-free faucet, warm water, hygienic hand drying, and hands-free exit. Unlike product certifications, this program evaluates the entire handwashing sequence as experienced by guests. The public can use the Clean Hands Certified app to recommend facilities and rate experiences, creating a feedback loop. The milestone will be celebrated on July 31, 2026, at the Timnath, Colorado location. Founder Tim Cromley emphasized that the certification treats handwashing as a measurable, maintainable operating standard across multiple locations.

A nine-location Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers franchise group serving Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming has become the first quick-service restaurant franchise group—and the first company—to earn Clean Hands Certification.
The participating locations are in:
- Longmont, CO
- Loveland, CO
- Johnstown, CO
- Greeley, CO
- Windsor, CO
- Timnath, CO
- Fort Collins, CO
- Cheyenne, WY
- Laramie, WY
Clean Hands Certified introduces a five-part operational standard for the complete public handwashing experience in public restrooms:
- Touch-free soap
- Touch-free faucet
- Warm water
- Hygienic hand drying
- Hands-free exit
Unlike a product certification, the program evaluates the entire handwashing sequence as experienced by the guest. The public can also use the Clean Hands Certified app to recommend facilities and rate their experience, creating a feedback loop between guests, facility operators, and suppliers.
For multi-unit restaurant operators, the model creates a repeatable standard that can be evaluated across locations, rather than relying on assumptions about individual fixtures or restroom design.
“Consistency is one of the hardest things to achieve across multiple locations,” said Tim Cromley, founder of Clean Hands Certified. “This commitment shows that the handwashing experience in public restrooms can be treated as an operating standard—measured, improved, and maintained.”
The milestone will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Timnath, Colorado Freddy’s location.
