Nora Häuptle's Copper Queens delivered a commanding performance in Rabat on Tuesday, thrashing Egypt 6–0 in their opening match of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.
Zambia controlled proceedings from start to finish. Racheal Nachula opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, and the team maintained their advantage comfortably until halftime.
After the break, captain Barbra Banda took centre stage. She converted a penalty in the 60th minute before adding three more goals (63rd, 87th, and 90th+6) to complete a stunning quadruple. Eneless Phiri joined the offensive display with a goal in the 84th minute, sealing a resounding victory that gives Zambia an ideal start to their continental campaign.
Malawi 3–2 Nigeria: Chawinga Sisters Stun Super Falcons
Ten-time champions Nigeria suffered a shock defeat in Rabat, losing 3–2 to Malawi in what was the Chawingas' first-ever match in a Women's AFCON final phase.
The match remained scoreless until midway through the second half, when Temwa Chawinga broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute. Her sister Tabitha, an Olympique Lyonnais forward, doubled Malawi's lead just six minutes later (79th minute).
Trailing by two goals, Justine Madugu's Nigeria fought back in stoppage time, scoring twice (90th+2, 90th+9). However, the younger Chawinga sister, 26-year-old Temwa, struck between those two goals (90th+5) to complete her brace and seal a historic victory for Malawi.
