Georgia Power is using eminent domain to acquire nearly 30 residential properties along a 35-mile stretch in Georgia for a transmission line project tied to AI data center expansion. The Ashley Park-Wansley Transmission Project is part of a larger plan to build over 1,000 miles of transmission lines and add 10 gigawatts of generating capacity. Residents like Ansley Brown face losing their childhood homes, with no choice but to sell. Georgia Power denies the project is data-center-focused, but regulatory filings show 80% of new generation capacity is expected to power data centers. The Georgia Public Service Commission approved the plan in 2025. Congressman Brian Jack has intervened, and Georgia Power says it reached an agreement with Brown's family. Construction could begin as early as next year.
