Ekaterina Alexandrova, the top seed at the WTA Memphis Tennis Classic, collapsed on court during the third set of her match against 16-year-old Kristina Liutova. Ekaterina Alexandrova collapsed on court during the third set of her WTA Tour match against Kristina Liutova at the Memphis Tennis Classic.
Alexandrova, the tournament's top seed, was trailing 5-4 in the deciding set of a three-hour contest played in temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius. She was forced to retire following a lengthy stoppage for medical treatment.
Liutova, 16, has reached the main draw of a WTA event for the first time. She will face American Maya Joint in the Round of 16.
