Fort Hood Army dining facility shut down after cockroach infestation video goes viral

A viral video showing a severe cockroach infestation at the Operation Iraqi Freedom dining facility (DFAC) on Fort Hood, Texas, has prompted its immediate closure. The video, posted anonymously on the U.S. Army W.T.F. moments social media account, depicts roaches swarming kitchen equipment and a food safety guide. Lt. Col. Joey Payton, director of public affairs for III Armored Corps, confirmed the closure and stated the facility will remain shut until the problem is resolved. The Army is investigating the cause of the infestation. In the meantime, food trucks are being provided for soldiers with meal cards. The incident follows years of complaints about DFAC quality at the installation, including issues with religious dietary accommodations in 2024. Nearly 40,000 soldiers are stationed at Fort Hood.
