According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta will not travel to England this week to accompany the first team for preseason training, nor will he attend the friendly match against Birmingham City in person. The reason for Laporta's absence is an arrhythmia, though the issue has now been resolved.
Laporta's Statement
Laporta later explained the situation on his personal social media and thanked the medical staff who provided treatment and assistance. He wrote:
"Everything went smoothly. The doctors corrected my arrhythmia, and my heart has now returned to a regular rhythm."
He expressed gratitude to the medical team, stating:
"I am very grateful to the outstanding doctors, nurses, and all medical staff at the Hospital de Barcelona, led by Dr. Jordi Morillas, for their excellent work. Beyond their expertise and extensive experience, they showed great kindness, understanding, patience, and care in their human touch, truly upholding the dignity of medicine and the Hippocratic Oath."
"This once again proves that we can provide excellent, top-tier medical services here in Barcelona and Catalonia. I am especially proud of the Barça medical team, led by Dr. Xavier Corbellà. Additionally, I want to thank my chief of staff, Manana Giorgadze, for efficiently coordinating the entire process."
"I also want to thank Dr. Valentí Fuster and his entire team at Mount Sinai Hospital for their valuable advice, which reassured me; as well as Dr. Brugada, who recommended the appropriate treatment procedure to correct this arrhythmia."
"Finally, I want to thank my children, siblings, family, and friends for all their support and companionship. Sincere thanks to everyone—this time, truly from the heart."
Club Representation in England
With Laporta confirmed absent, Barcelona's vice president of sports, Rafa Yuste, will be the highest-ranking club official accompanying the team to England. Sporting director Deco is also expected to travel with the squad.
