Malian footballer Moussa, a center-back for Málaga CF, has suffered a new injury—a soleus muscle strain in his right leg—confirmed by medical tests after he reported discomfort. The injury will sideline him for several weeks, adding to a long history of physical setbacks since September 2022, including a fractured fifth metatarsal, a grade II knee ligament rupture, and an ankle sprain. He last played for Málaga's first team in October 2024. The club now has five other center-backs available, reducing the likelihood of a loan move for Moussa, who remains under contract until 2028. The player posted a motivational message on social media, saying 'It's not the end, it's just a part of the journey.'
Source report
Málaga CF center-back Moussa continues to endure a difficult spell of injuries. As the blue-and-white club confirmed this Monday, the player underwent medical tests after experiencing discomfort, which revealed a soleus muscle injury in his right leg. The injury will keep him out of first-team action for the next few weeks.
The Malian international has yet to regain his physical or competitive rhythm. In February 2025, just weeks into a loan spell at Marbella FC, he suffered a grade II rupture of the internal lateral ligament and a partial rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. In May 2024, he sustained an ankle sprain. His injury troubles date back to September 2022, when he suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, requiring surgery and a return to Mali.
Succession of Injuries
Moussa was one of the key names in the club's exit operation to free up a roster spot for new signings. His last appearance for the Málaga CF first team came in October 2024, in the Copa del Rey match against CD Estepona. Since then, he has been plagued by injuries and loan moves, spending more time off the pitch than on it.
"It's not the end, it's just a part of the journey. Stronger, wiser, hungrier. Learn to flow in the chaos," the player wrote on his social media.
Contract Until 2028
Moussa's future remains uncertain, as he still has two years left on his contract. For now, the player will have to pause after the soleus injury—one of the most sensitive areas for a footballer due to the recovery it requires. Málaga CF is left with five center-backs: Murillo, Calero, Pastor, Galilea, and Recio. Only the player from Fuengirola was present against Leicester, and the possibility of finding a loan for the Malian has diminished.
