RC Strasbourg Alsace is close to signing Danish goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen from Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Ligue 1 club had been searching for a new number one since Mike Penders returned to Chelsea from loan. Initially, Strasbourg tested American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, also from Chelsea, but has now pivoted to Jörgensen. New Strasbourg coach Hugo Oliveira emphasizes the goalkeeper's role in building play, calling the keeper 'the first attacker.' Jörgensen, who played 12 matches for Chelsea last season including a Champions League start against PSG, has left Chelsea's training camp to finalize the transfer. The deal is reportedly near completion, with only salary details remaining. The move is part of ongoing player exchanges between Chelsea and its sister club Strasbourg.

Strasbourg Closes Deal for Chelsea Goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen

Strasbourg had been looking for a new goalkeeper since Mike Penders' return from loan to Chelsea. The Alsatian club now aims to install a new number one capable of meeting Hugo Oliveira's requirements, for whom the goalkeeper plays a central role in building play.
Initially, Racing had decided to test Gabriel Slonina. The 22-year-old American international goalkeeper, also under contract with Chelsea, was to be observed for several weeks, particularly regarding the quality of his play with his feet.
"The goalkeeper will be key in our philosophy. He is fully part of building play, he is a true outfield player and the first attacker of the team," explained Racing's new coach, Hugo Oliveira.
The goal was to determine if Slonina could establish himself as the future starter in the Strasbourg goal. However, Strasbourg should ultimately bet on another element from the London club. According to Fabrizio Romano, Filip Jörgensen is now very close to joining RCSA, with an agreement nearly reached between the various parties.
A New Chelsea Element Heads to Racing
The Danish goalkeeper had already been identified as an alternative solution in case of doubts about Slonina. The final details still concern the salary conditions of the operation, but the transfer now seems imminent.
While competition is expected to be between Robert Sanchez and Mike Penders at Chelsea, the Dane was on the verge of being sold by the Blues. Filip Jörgensen has indeed left Chelsea's training camp to finalize his departure and should soon become the new goalkeeper of Racing Club de Strasbourg.
Behind Robert Sanchez last season, Jörgensen played 12 matches in all competitions, including 5 Premier League games. He notably started in the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain, where the Dane was heavily criticized for a blunder after gifting the third goal to Vitinha.
Trained at Villarreal before his arrival in London, he should take the opposite path of Valentin Barco, who is about to sign with Chelsea, as the club continues to exchange players with its Alsatian partner club.
