Sporting Gijón has officially announced the return of Uruguayan forward Andrés Ferrari on a loan deal from Belgian side Sint-Truidense, with a purchase option that becomes mandatory upon meeting certain objectives. Ferrari previously played for Sporting during the winter transfer window, making an immediate impact with two goals in seven appearances, though his season was cut short in March when he suffered a fractured fibula in his left leg after colliding with an opposing goalkeeper while scoring a header against Castellón. Despite the injury, both the club and the player were eager to reunite. Negotiations accelerated in the second week of July, and Ferrari's desire to return prevailed over initial complications from his owning club. He joins Nicolás Larcamón's squad, though his fitness and availability for upcoming friendlies remain uncertain. Sporting thanked Ferrari for his strong interest in continuing with the club's project.

Sporting Gijón has officially announced the return of Andrés Ferrari, who joins the club on loan with a purchase option reserved by the red-and-white team. The option is structured around performance-based objectives that, if met, will become mandatory.
The Uruguayan forward left a strong impression during his previous stint in Gijón, and despite an injury cutting his season short, both the club and the player were eager to reunite.
Negotiations and Background
Talks between the player, Sporting, and Belgian side Sint-Truidense began several months ago, though demands from Ferrari's owning club initially complicated matters. According to La Nueva España, negotiations accelerated in the second week of July, and Ferrari's desire to return to Gijón ultimately prevailed.
Previous Impact and Injury
Ferrari arrived in Gijón during the last winter transfer window and made an immediate impact. In seven matches—only three as a starter—he scored two goals, both contributing to victories.
However, one of those goals sealed his fate for the remainder of the campaign. On March 15, during the match against Castellón, Ferrari headed a cross from Guille Rosas but collided with the opposing goalkeeper, suffering a fractured fibula in his left leg.
He bid farewell to the season, and it initially seemed he would never wear the red-and-white jersey again. Yet Sporting wanted him back, and the player himself showed interest from the very first moment in succeeding at El Molinón.
"The Club thanks the player for his great interest in continuing with the red-and-white project and wishes him much success in this new stage," Sporting stated in its announcement.
Current Status
Ferrari joins Nicolás Larcamón's squad, although it remains to be seen in what condition he arrives and whether he can participate with his teammates in upcoming friendly matches.
