England soccer legend Kevin Keegan dies at 75

Kevin Keegan, the legendary English footballer and two-time Ballon d'Or winner, has died at age 75. His death was announced on July 20, 2026, by his former club Newcastle United, where he served as both player and coach. Keegan had revealed last month that he was battling stage four cancer. Known for his celebrity status and trendsetting off the field, Keegan won the European Cup with Liverpool in 1977 before moving to Hamburger SV, where he won the Ballon d'Or in 1978 and 1979. He scored 21 goals in 63 appearances for England and played at the 1982 World Cup. His coaching career included a memorable near-title run with Newcastle in 1995-96 and a stint as England manager from 1999-2000. Tributes have been left outside St. James' Park in Newcastle.
