Barcelona to Sell Casadó Despite De Jong's Knee Injury, Confident in Internal Options

Barcelona's official medical report has confirmed the worst-case scenario for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong. As previously revealed by As, De Jong suffered a tear in the medial collateral ligament of his right knee. Although he is currently avoiding surgery, it is highly likely that he will eventually require surgical treatment, with an expected absence of five to six months.

While De Jong's injury might prompt Barcelona to readjust their midfield plans, the club's sports management has not changed its overall strategy. Fortunately, under coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona's midfield is not short of personnel, and the youth academy has available young talents to help the team cope with temporary needs.

Barcelona Still Intends to Sell Casadó

In this context, Barcelona still intends to sell midfielder Marc Casadó when they receive an offer that meets expectations. The club hopes to obtain around €30 million in transfer fees from his sale. Currently, Casadó has received offers from the Premier League and the Saudi League.

Casadó himself is aware that it may be difficult for him to secure consistent playing time next season, and he needs to communicate with Flick and sporting director Deco. In an interview with Catalan radio, he said:

"There are still some things to discuss with the coach and the sports management, as well as with my agent. We will handle these matters in the coming weeks and then make a decision."

Although outsiders believe his opportunities at Barcelona are limited, Casadó has not ruled out the possibility of staying. He added:

"No one can doubt that I want to stay here. If someone tells me I can't stay, then we must find the best solution for all parties involved. As a Barcelona fan, I want the team and the club to do well. If they think I should stay, I will stay; if they think the best option is for me to leave so the team can continue to grow, then I will leave."

Internal Alternatives Being Considered

Barcelona internally still believes that even if Casadó leaves, the team can find alternatives from the current squad and youth system to cope with De Jong's temporary absence and the potential departure of the player from Sant Pere de Vilamajor.

• Tommy Marks is one option. Barcelona's internal staff have long been optimistic about this player, especially recognizing his ability as a defensive midfielder. The club believes he can fully take on Casadó's current role next season, and the sports management also thinks he is ready for a bigger role in the first team.

• Bryan Fariñas is another consideration. Barcelona has temporarily delayed his move to Girona. Flick wants to observe his performance during the preseason to determine if he is ready to play an important role for Barcelona B and earn some opportunities to appear for the first team.
