AMD partners with Anthropic in multi-billion-dollar AI chip deal, stock up 1.45%

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced a multi-billion-dollar strategic partnership with AI startup Anthropic on July 22, 2026, causing its stock to rise 1.45%. Under the agreement, Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD's MI450 AI accelerators starting in the first half of 2027, using AMD's Helios rack-scale platform. AMD also plans to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic. KeyBanc analyst John Vinh estimates the deployment could generate roughly $27.2 billion in revenue for AMD, reinforcing its position as a credible alternative to Nvidia in the AI accelerator market. The announcement came during AMD's Advancing AI 2026 event, where CEO Lisa Su outlined an ambitious AI roadmap through 2030 and projected the total computing market could grow to $2 trillion by 2030. The partnership strengthens AMD's long-term growth story amid rising AI infrastructure spending.
