Girona FC has officially announced that captain and all-time top scorer Cristhian Stuani has renewed his contract until 2027, extending his stay at the club into a tenth season. The 39-year-old Uruguayan striker, who will turn 40 during the upcoming campaign, expressed his deep emotional connection to the club, stating he has 'learned to love this club' and hopes to retire at Girona. The renewal comes after Girona's relegation to the Spanish Second Division, which forced the club to lower its sporting and financial expectations. Stuani, who ended his previous contract on June 30, was clear about his desire to stay. His influence extends beyond the pitch as a key dressing-room leader during a period of potential player exodus. He aims to help the club return to La Liga.

It is now official. Christhian Stuani will wear the Girona jersey for one more year. The club's all-time top scorer has extended his contract until 2027 and will face his tenth season as a red-and-white player, as announced by the club in a heartfelt statement.
The relegation to the Second Division, which completely altered the club's short-term sporting and financial plans, led Stuani to decide to stay another year. The Uruguayan had also expressed his desire to retire at Girona weeks ago.
Stuani, who will serve as Girona captain for another year, arrived at the club ten years ago.
“I have experienced so many things here... Completing ten seasons with the club is something unthinkable when I arrived. Over time I have learned to love the club. It is a feeling I carry inside, and when there are difficult situations, it fills me with pride to wear this shirt. I really wanted to renew. I hope to continue giving a lot to the club.”
Although the attacker's contract ended on June 30, both the club and the player were clear that they wanted to remain linked for another year. At 39 years old, the Uruguayan striker will continue at a Girona that he considers his home. Despite being the club's all-time top scorer, his influence goes far beyond the pitch, and he remains one of the key references in a dressing room that could experience a mass exodus following relegation.
Stuani Reaches a Decade
Returning to the Second Division changed the club's plans, as well as its sporting and financial planning, which had to lower expectations. In this unexpected context for Girona, Stuani is an ideal player, bringing experience and commitment — not to mention that he fits into the club's economic structure.
It was precisely when relegation to the second tier was confirmed that Stuani publicly expressed his intention to renew and his desire to retire at the Catalan club. The Uruguayan, who will turn 40 this season, has his sights set on returning the club to the First Division — and who knows if that will be his last great service.
