Emotionally moved, presenter Judith Rakers has handed over her farm on the outskirts of Hamburg to a successor. She had already relocated her main residence last year.
The presenter and longtime "Tagesschau" anchor announced the handover in a video on Instagram. The new owner is TV and radio presenter Lisa Kestel, who also runs a prominent Instagram channel.
Emotional Farewell
"Difficult day for me," Rakers captioned her video. "Today I am handing over the little farm to its new owners. So that horses can finally graze on this pasture again and chickens can live in the chicken coop again."
She said she would have preferred to keep the special place in the family. "But this house simply needs to be lived in. People need to live here who take care of it, who keep an eye on the garden," she explained.
The past days, during which she was busy clearing out her belongings, were emotionally difficult for her, Rakers said. She clearly gets along well with the new owner – the two appeared together in videos multiple times.
The farm is "in good hands, but I am still sad," Rakers said about the farewell. Kestel promised Rakers in another post that she would "always be welcome with all my heart for all eternity."
Move to Rügen
Judith Rakers had already fulfilled a long-cherished dream last year and moved from Hamburg to the Baltic Sea island of Rügen.
"In my new home, I will also have everything I had on the little farm in Hamburg: a house to live in, a stable for the animals, and space for vegetable beds. I don't think I will miss anything," she said at the time in an interview with WELT. She said she "fell madly in love" with the island when she first visited in 2010.
Post-"Tagesschau" Career
Since her departure from "Tagesschau" in January 2024, the hobby gardener has focused on her entrepreneurial activities and published books on the topic of "Homefarming."
