BJP Andhra Pradesh chief: Party committed to inclusive development of minorities, backs Uniform Civil Code

Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president P. V. N. Madhav on Monday stated that the BJP is committed to the inclusive development of minorities while upholding every citizen's right to practise the religion of their choice.

Addressing the BJP Minority Morcha State Executive Committee meeting in Vijayawada, Mr. Madhav said religion is a personal matter, but the nation and the law must remain common to all.

Key Points from the Address

• Uniform Civil Code (UCC): Mr. Madhav made a case for the UCC, arguing that a common legal framework would ensure equal rights and opportunities for all citizens while eliminating discrimination and social divisions. He cited Indonesia as an example of a Muslim-majority country following a uniform civil code.

• Hindutva as Civilisational Ethos: Describing Hindutva as a civilisational ethos rooted in Indian culture, he said the BJP envisions a society founded on equality, tolerance and universal human values.

• Tribute to A. P. J. Abdul Kalam: Paying tributes to the former President, Mr. Madhav urged minority youth, particularly Muslims, to pursue careers in civil services, the armed forces and other sectors to contribute to nation-building.

• Welfare Schemes: He said welfare schemes introduced by the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi are benefiting all eligible citizens irrespective of religion or caste, including poor Muslim families.

• Focus on Pasmanda Muslims: Stressing the need to improve educational and employment opportunities, he called for greater focus on education, skill development and employment among Pasmanda Muslims.

• Communal Harmony: He appealed to people to uphold communal harmony and work together for peace, unity and development.
