RWE Midfielder Berk Inaler Out 4-6 Weeks After Achilles Surgery

Berk Inaler (26) had hoped to return to the pitch long ago. Instead, the FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt midfielder is recovering in hospital. The new signing from SV Sandhausen underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon last weekend, and his comeback is expected to take considerable time.

Since December 2025, Inaler has not played a single match. The surgery is a direct consequence of the muscle bundle tear he suffered at that time.

"It also affected the Achilles tendon. I had discomfort for months," he said.

Conservative Treatment Unsuccessful

Medical staff repeatedly attempted conservative treatment methods.

"I got insoles to relieve the tendon, plus autologous blood injections," Inaler recalled.

Nothing proved effective. In consultation with RWE, he decided to proceed with surgery.

Rehab Follows in Berlin

The procedure took place last Thursday near Frankfurt.

"Inflamed tissue and adhesions were removed," Inaler reported.

He is now in Berlin for rehabilitation.

"Now it's important that the wound heals," he said.

Inaler is not yet allowed to put weight on his foot and will remain on crutches for several more days. A return to the training ground remains distant.

"It will take at least four to six weeks," he stated.

Even if recovery takes longer, Inaler is prepared to accept it.

"The last few months have been very difficult mentally. But now with the surgery, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I won't put any extra pressure on myself because of it," he remarked.

Erfurt with a Super Start to the Season

Standing pain-free on the pitch remains the big goal.

"And a few days more or less don't matter," he said.

Until then, Inaler will support his team as a fan.

"I hope it continues as successfully as the start was. That's what I would wish for," he said.

FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt opened the season with a strong statement, defeating BFC Dynamo 4-1.
