Woking director: Growing concerns from players and staff led to Defoe exit

Woking director of football Jody Brown revealed that 'growing concerns' from players, staff, and other departments preceded the mutual departure of former England striker Jermain Defoe as manager after just four months and six league games. Brown stated that Defoe and assistant Paul Bracewell failed to provide a requested report on squad depth and recruitment targets, and subsequently missed a scheduled meeting and training session. Defoe, 43, who scored 305 goals in a storied playing career, called the experience 'eye-opening' and said it would make him stronger.
