South Korean attacking midfielder Kang-in Lee has left Paris Saint-Germain to join Atlético de Madrid, signing a five-year contract until June 30, 2031. The transfer fee is estimated at €40 million without bonuses, according to sources close to the negotiations. The 25-year-old, a two-time Champions League winner with PSG, failed to establish himself as a starter under coach Luis Enrique but contributed 4 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season. He becomes Atlético's third summer signing, following Morten Hjulmand and Alejandro Grimaldo, as the club seeks offensive reinforcements after Antoine Griezmann's departure to Orlando. Kang-in Lee previously played for Valencia before joining PSG.
Source report
Atlético de Madrid has secured the signing of South Korean attacking midfielder Kang-in Lee from Paris Saint-Germain, with the player committing to the Spanish club for the next five seasons.
Both clubs confirmed the deal on Saturday. "Atlético de Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement for the transfer of Kang-in Lee, who signs with our club until June 30, 2031," the Madrid club announced, without disclosing the transfer fee.
According to a source close to the negotiations consulted by AFP, the transfer is valued at approximately €40 million, excluding bonuses.
Departure from Paris
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, now a key figure for the South Korean national team, leaves Paris after three seasons. Although he failed to establish himself as a regular starter, he departs with twelve trophies, including the last two UEFA Champions League titles.
PSG "warmly" thanked the player for his contribution to winning those two European stars, despite being used sparingly by coach Luis Enrique. The Spanish manager gave Lee more playing time in Ligue 1 to compensate for Paris's numerous injured absentees in the autumn, where he made his greatest impact—recording 4 goals and 5 assists across all competitions.
Third Summer Signing for Los Colchoneros
Kang-in Lee, who previously played for Valencia, had been tracked by Atlético for several months. The club is seeking offensive reinforcements following Antoine Griezmann's departure to Orlando.
He becomes the third summer signing for Los Colchoneros, following Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand and Spanish full-back Alejandro Grimaldo.
