According to a report by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf's renowned journalist Mike Verweij, sources close to the Premier League club have revealed that 20-year-old Givairo Read has reached a verbal agreement with Nottingham Forest on a five-season contract.
The Feyenoord defender is eager to move to England and is currently awaiting a final agreement between the two clubs.
Nottingham Forest made a third bid for the talented defender on Sunday, totaling €22 million. The club is willing to increase the total offer to up to €25 million. Sources close to Nottingham Forest indicate that this amount should be sufficient to finalize the deal, as Read is reportedly in agreement with the figure.
Previously, Bayern Munich and Newcastle United had shown interest in the Amsterdam native last winter, but injuries prevented a transfer. The Dutch youth international joined Feyenoord on a free transfer from Volendam in the summer of 2023.
Feyenoord would prefer Read to stay at De Kuip for another season and is attempting to renegotiate, raise his salary, and extend the captain's contract until the summer of 2029. However, the chances of these negotiations succeeding remain uncertain. In England, Read's salary could increase to about four times his current earnings.
His agent team has reached a verbal agreement with Nottingham Forest on a salary package until 2031, including €20 million in wages and bonuses.
Nottingham Forest's new head coach, Oliver Glasner, sees Read as a key figure in helping the ambitious club achieve a competitive leap.
The 51-year-old Austrian coach previously managed Crystal Palace, becoming the most successful manager in the club's history. He led the team to its first major trophies, including the 2025 FA Cup, Community Shield, and the 2026 UEFA Europa Conference League title.
