National Guard signs $290M apartment contract for 2,000 units in Washington D.C.

The National Guard Bureau has signed a $292 million contract with corporate lodging company Placemakr to provide 2,000 apartment-style units for National Guardsmen mobilized in Washington, D.C. The three-year contract, described as a 'long-term housing solution,' aims to improve troop readiness, quality of life, and operational security while reducing costs. Originally a mission for 800 Guardsmen announced by President Trump in August 2025, the mobilization has grown to 4,755 troops from 15 states. Most troops without local housing had been staying in hotels. The apartments, located in five complexes in Washington and Arlington, Virginia, offer amenities such as weekly housekeeping, Wi-Fi, smart TVs, gyms, and full kitchens. The contract is the largest interagency lodging acquisition in National Guard history.
