SportsU.S. Space Force 1st Lt. Thomas Moriarty, a 48-year-old operations officer at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, set six Hawaii state powerlifting records at the 2026 USA Powerlifting Hawaii State Championship on April 25. His lifts included a 182.5 kg squat, 140 kg bench press, 215 kg deadlift, and a 537.5 kg overall total. Moriarty emphasizes fitness as critical to military readiness and longevity, waking at 3 a.m. three days a week to train. He also mentors fellow service members, recounting how he helped an Airman lose 26 pounds and pass a fitness test in eight weeks. Moriarty is scheduled to compete at the USA Powerlifting West Regionals in Las Vegas in September, aiming for a pro card and qualification for the 2027 Masters Nationals.
