First Half
In the first half, the second-division side played lively from the start, creating several promising attacking moves. One of these was converted by Emmanuel Iyoha with a fine curler in the 11th minute. The goal from the former Düsseldorf player also pleased the coach.
Sander: "A goal like that is incredibly important for the mind. It brings self-confidence. And sometimes goals are simply better for integrating more quickly. I'm happy for him."
Second Half
After the break, the visitors continued to push. Twice Tachie and once Hyryläinen with a header missed extending the FCM lead. Then substitute Paul Jaeckel made sure, heading in a fine free-kick delivery from Torben Müsel in the 66th minute.
Sander: "You have to be able to defend a combination like that. We will continue to use Torben's strengths."
Squad Notes
Not in the squad was Falko Michel, who injured his left foot in training and remains sidelined. Lubambo Musonda took a break due to the flu, and Daniel Heber was absent with knee problems.
But even without potential regulars Michel and Musonda, the FCM put in a convincing performance. Fans should mark next Saturday's season dress rehearsal against West Ham United firmly on their calendars.
