Newcastle United sign Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba for up to £34m

Newcastle United have completed the signing of 20-year-old Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba for a fee that could rise to £34 million. The French youth international signed a five-year deal after undergoing a medical on Tyneside. Bamba, who made only 12 competitive starts for Monaco, impressed Newcastle with his performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, ranking in the top five among Ligue 1 midfielders for duels won, tackles, successful take-ons, and aerial duels won. Head coach Eddie Howe described him as an exciting young signing with huge potential for growth. The move marks a shift in Newcastle's transfer strategy toward younger talents, following previous signings of players aged 20 and under. Bamba is Newcastle's fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
