Source report
Ruben Amorim returned to football this summer after a break following his departure from Manchester United.
The Portuguese coach was sacked in January 2026 after comments about the Red Devils' hierarchy in the media, pushing back against claims he was a "head coach" rather than a manager.
Amorim oversaw 63 matches as Manchester United head coach, winning just 25, and finished with a 40% win rate. In January 2025, he described his team as "maybe the worst" in the 147-year history of the club — one of a series of comments that slowly led to his demise, as his poor football was never the decisive factor.
Only a year later, after taking the club to its lowest top-flight finish since being relegated from Division One in 1974, Amorim was out of a job and eventually replaced by now-head coach Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils improved in early life after Amorim, with Carrick leading the side to a UEFA Champions League spot by finishing third in the Premier League.
Clearly, Ruben Amorim is a decent coach, but could not manage the expectations of Manchester United. He has now begun his newest venture after taking the remainder of the 2025/26 season out of football.
AC Milan hired Amorim in June 2026, and the 41-year-old has now taken charge of his first game at the Serie A club.
The Italian side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Scottish Premiership side Celtic in Glasgow, despite being behind at half-time.
Introduced at the midway point, 18-year-old striker Francesco Camarda came on to make an impact, scoring the two goals that saved the day for AC Milan.
It is a solid start for Ruben Amorim in his return to football, who played his favourite 3-4-3 formation in the match.
The ex-Manchester United boss will now hope to build on a positive second half as he targets a successful campaign in Italy.
