Ismaël Gharbi, a 22-year-old Tunisian international and former Paris Saint-Germain academy player, has been loaned to CD Leganés in the Spanish Second Division for the upcoming season. The loan includes a purchase option. Gharbi, who has 20 caps and 2 goals for Tunisia, joined SC Braga on a free transfer from PSG in summer 2024. He played 38 matches and scored 4 goals in his first season in Portugal, but a subsequent loan to Bundesliga side Augsburg was less successful, with only 7 appearances and no goals. Born in Paris to a Tunisian father and Spanish mother, Gharbi previously represented France and Spain at youth levels before choosing Tunisia. He participated in the 2025 World Cup with Tunisia, who were eliminated in the group stage. Leganés finished 16th in the Segunda División last season.
Source report
The 22-year-old Tunisian international is set for a new challenge in Spain's second division, continuing a career that has already taken him through four clubs since leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
Ismaël Gharbi, a former Paris Saint-Germain academy product, is set to join the fifth club of his professional career. The Tunisian international (20 caps, 2 goals) will move on loan to CD Leganés in the Spanish Second Division, with the Madrid-based club holding a purchase option.
Gharbi left PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 to join Portuguese side Braga. Now, after a mixed spell in Portugal and Germany, he will discover Spanish football for the first time.
A Career in Transition
Despite his versatility and the high hopes placed in him, Gharbi failed to establish himself at PSG, his formative club from 2016 to 2024. He made only 12 first-team appearances for the Parisian side.
- 2023–2024: Loaned to Lausanne
- Summer 2024: Sold to Braga
- 2024–2025 (Braga): Scored 4 goals in 38 appearances
- 2025–2026 (Augsburg, loan): Played only 7 Bundesliga matches, scored 0 goals
A Familiar Land
Although he will play in a Spanish league for the first time, Gharbi is no stranger to the country. Born in Paris to a Tunisian father and a Spanish mother, he represented France at U18 level and Spain at U18 and U19 levels before ultimately committing to Tunisia.
He chose the Eagles of Carthage ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and also participated in the 2026 World Cup with Tunisia, where the team was eliminated in the group stage after three defeats in Group F.
