TechAMD unveils CPU roadmap through 2028, confirms Zen 7 'Florence' and Zen 8 'Ravenna'

At its Advancing AI event, AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled a long-term CPU roadmap extending to Zen 8. The roadmap includes the upcoming Zen 6 'Venice' and 'Venice-X' EPYC processors, followed by the Zen 7 'Florence' family slated for 2028. AMD has detailed its long-term CPU roadmap at its Advancing AI event, outlining multiple generations of its Zen microarchitecture through the end of the decade. While much of the event focused on the new 256-core EPYC 9996 processor featuring the Zen 6 architecture and the upcoming Venice-X series slated for next year, AMD also provided a forward-looking roadmap extending to Zen 8.
Florence: Zen 7 Arrives in 2028
"In 2028, we are going to introduce Florence," said Lisa Su, CEO of AMD. "Florence brings the next-gen Zen 7 cores and its leading-edge process technology. It's a new set of AI compute extensions to really ensure that we have all of the AI capability, and it supports the latest memory technologies."
Su did not disclose specific details regarding the process technology, core counts, memory subsystem, or AI extensions planned for Florence (Zen 7). However, she indicated that Florence will not be a standalone processor family. Instead, it will be joined by the Ferrara AI host node and the Faenza Agentic Sandbox, designed for different AI workloads. AMD stated that this approach will enable the company to offer purpose-built CPUs for a wider range of applications, rather than relying on a single architecture configuration across the entire server market.
Ravenna: Zen 8 Already in Development
"And we are not stopping there," Su added. "We are already deep in development of Ravenna, our 8th Generation EPYC family built on Zen 8, and that family is already well under development for 2030."
The CPU roadmap is part of AMD's broader strategy to deliver a predictable cadence for its data center platforms.
Accelerator Roadmap: MI500 and MI600 Series
On the accelerator side, AMD is developing its MI500-series Instinct products, which will feature next-generation HBM, larger scale-up domains, and new copper and optical interconnect technologies—a direction similar to Nvidia's outlook toward Rubin Ultra and Feynman.
"MI500 will deliver the largest generational leap in the history of Instinct, putting us on track to deliver more than 2,000 times higher inference throughput in just four years," Su said.
AMD also confirmed that its CDNA Next-based Instinct MI600 family is already deep in development for 2028. At the event, AMD launched its MI455X GPU and teased more details about its upcoming MI500X range, which is expected to launch next year.
