Kevin Kampl, the 35-year-old Slovenian former RB Leipzig midfielder, terminated his contract with the club in January 2025 following the sudden death of his 51-year-old brother Seki in October 2024, and subsequently the death of his father. After 283 matches and two German Cup wins with Leipzig, Kampl has relocated to a finca (small farm) in Mallorca, Balearic Islands, where he now cultivates melons, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and produces olive oil. He describes the calm and tranquility of Mallorca as beneficial for his family. Despite his new agricultural life, Kampl has not ruled out a future return to football, particularly to the RB Leipzig bench, to which he remains attached.

A Life Reinvented
Kevin Kampl has undergone a complete transformation. Following the sudden death of his brother in January, the Slovenian midfielder terminated his contract with RB Leipzig to devote himself entirely to his family. His new beginning has taken him from football pitches to the gardens of a finca—a small traditional farm in Spain.
A Year of Loss
On October 27, 2025, Kampl announced the sudden death of his 51-year-old brother, Seki.
"You were my best friend... The best brother, son, father, and uncle anyone could dream of! I love you more than words can say," he wrote on Instagram.
A few months later, in January, Kampl decided to terminate his contract with RB Leipzig. After eight and a half seasons, 283 matches, and two German Cups won with the club (2022 and 2023), the midfielder wanted to return to his native Solingen to focus on what matters most: his family.
In the months that followed, Kampl also learned of his father's death.
"It has been a terrible year, there is no other word," Kampl told German media outlet Bild.
Two devastating trials in just seven months brought Kampl back to the utmost simplicity: a small farm in the Balearic Islands, his family, and artisanal agriculture.
"The calm and tranquility of Mallorca are doing everyone good right now."
Family, Gardens, and the Chirping of Cicadas
The 35-year-old former midfielder recently shared on his Instagram story a photo of himself crouching, a straw hat on his head, holding a plate of fruits and vegetables.
"We have melons, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and many other things," he told Bild. "They're growing at an incredible speed. And our olive oil is delicious."
Far from the turmoil of the football world, Kampl appears to have found his peaceful corner—surrounded by gardens, his family, and the chirping of cicadas.
Yet even on his Mallorcan finca, his love for the game remains close. The former Leipzig player has not ruled out returning to football one day, particularly to the RB Leipzig bench—a club to which he has never stopped professing his devotion.
