Córdoba CF will conclude its most intense preseason week with a match against Cádiz CF on Saturday at 8:00 PM in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, streamed live on the club's YouTube channel. This is Córdoba's third summer friendly and second in 48 hours, following draws against Orlando Pirates (1-1) and Sevilla FC (0-0). Coach Iván Ania plans to rotate heavily, using two different lineups per half to evaluate 12 new signings among 23 first-team players. Cádiz, rebuilding after a poor season (43 points), has made nine signings and lost to Orlando Pirates and Leicester in recent friendlies. Both teams favor possession-based football. Córdoba's sporting director Juan Gutiérrez is monitoring performances closely, with potential further transfers expected before the window closes.
Source report
Córdoba CF will conclude its most intense week of preseason with an important match against Cádiz. The fixture takes place this Saturday at 8:00 PM in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and will be broadcast live on the green-and-white club's YouTube channel.
Preseason Progress So Far
The match will be Córdoba's third of the summer and their second in just 48 hours. Iván Ania's side has recorded two draws to date:
- A 1-1 draw against South Africa's Orlando Pirates in Marbella on July 15
- A 0-0 draw against La Liga side Sevilla FC this past Thursday
This will be their first encounter with a team from the same division. Cádiz arrives heavily revamped, aiming to move past last season's poor performance, which saw them finish with just 43 points—relegation-level numbers.
Rotation Expected
Iván Ania is expected to follow the same approach as in the previous two matches: numerous changes and two entirely different lineups for each half. The Asturian coach is known for giving extensive minutes to all players during preseason to assess their capabilities. For Ania, the result remains a secondary concern at this stage of the year.
Of the 23 first-team players available, 12 are new signings. Ania has much to evaluate, particularly regarding the playing system he has employed since joining Córdoba CF in the summer of 2024.
Sporting Management Monitoring Closely
Ania is not the only club figure closely observing the squad. Sporting director Juan Gutiérrez has confirmed he is following training sessions and matches to assess the reinforcements. The club does not consider the summer transfer window closed, and one or more players could still arrive depending on the needs identified by the sports commission. Initially, one or two players are expected to be loaned out to Primera Federación teams.
Cádiz's Preseason Form
Cádiz has already played three friendlies:
- A 7-0 thrashing of modest side Barbate
- A 1-2 defeat to Orlando Pirates
- A 0-1 loss to Leicester City (played last Wednesday)
Like Córdoba CF, Cádiz will play two matches almost back-to-back.
Match Preview
Cádiz, now coached by Imanol Idiakez, has completed nine signings. Notably, the squad no longer includes Yussi Diarra, who is now on loan at Córdoba CF with a purchase option for the Córdoba club.
An attractive match is expected, as both teams favour ball possession and control of the game.
