A 54-year-old worker died this Friday after being struck while working on the construction of the new Camp Nou, marking the first fatal workplace accident since the extensive renovation of the Barcelona stadium began in June 2023.
According to a statement from the Mossos d’Esquadra, officers from the Les Corts police station in Barcelona received the alert regarding this workplace accident around 3:30 PM.
The renovation works of the Spotify Camp Nou began on June 1, 2023, involving thousands of workers who recently completed the structure of the new third tier. They are now focusing, among other tasks, on a compression ring to support the roof of the Barcelona stadium.
As reported by the Mossos, the worker died due to a blow while performing tasks at the construction site. After receiving the alert, several units of the Mossos, the Investigation Unit, and the Medical Emergency System (SEM) responded to the scene, but they were unable to save the worker's life.
Following established protocols, the Mossos d’Esquadra reported this fatal workplace accident to the duty investigating court and the department of Enterprise and Labor.
