On July 24, 2026, militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a security check post in Tank district, northwestern Pakistan, killing 15 people, including 12 soldiers, two policemen, and a former government official. The Pakistani military confirmed the attack, stating that security forces killed 12 militants in response. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility, saying four suicide bombers were involved. The attack occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghan border. Pakistan has blamed rising militancy in the region on groups operating from Afghanistan, straining relations with the Taliban government in Kabul, which denies involvement. The incident follows Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan soil in June that reportedly killed dozens of civilians.

Militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a security check post in northwestern Pakistan overnight, killing 15 people, including soldiers, police, and government personnel, the military said on Friday (July 24, 2026).
“Fifteen brave sons of soil, including twelve military, two policemen and an ex-government official from the forest department, rendered the ultimate sacrifice and embraced Shahadat (martyrdom),” the military’s media wing said in a statement on the latest attack in the border province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Security forces killed 12 militants during the attack, which took place in the Tank district, according to the military.
“The attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall,” the statement said. “Due to the blast impact, infrastructure at the checkpost was seriously damaged.”
Local Taliban militants, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying four suicide bombers took part in it, according to a statement.
Pakistan has previously blamed the increase in attacks in KP and the southern border province of Balochistan on militancy emanating from Afghanistan, where the Taliban government denies Afghan involvement.
The accusations have sparked a bitter rift and armed conflict between the neighbouring countries, and Pakistan has carried out deadly airstrikes it says target militants on Afghan soil.
The Taliban government and the United Nations said dozens of civilians were killed in the latest Pakistani strikes on eastern Afghanistan in June.
