FinanceFincantieri has signed a contract amendment with OCCAR worth approximately 317 million euros for the U212 NFS (Near Future Submarine) program, which involves building four next-generation submarines for the Italian Navy at the Muggiano Integrated Shipyard. The amendment introduces new technological capabilities, including integration of countermeasure systems developed by WASS, and enhances logistics support to ensure long-term operational availability. It also accelerates delivery of the fourth submarine by two years, from 2034 to 2032, enabling the Italian Navy to receive one new submarine per year starting in 2029. The U212 NFS program features a more mature design than previous U212A-class submarines, with higher national technological content, lithium-ion propulsion batteries, and a new combat management system. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero stated the agreement confirms the company's central role in developing Italy's underwater capabilities and demonstrates its ability to translate innovation into tangible results.
