Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini announced the squad for the second preseason friendly against Recreativo de Huelva in the LVII Colombino Trophy. Captain Isco Alarcón is the main absentee, having returned early from a training camp in Germany and not yet match-fit. The coaching staff is taking a cautious approach with his return. Also missing are Brazilian winger Antony, who joined the Germany camp late, and Abde, who returned on Monday and needs more training. The traveling squad includes new signing Diego Conde, U19 European Championship winners Manu González and Morante, and several youth academy players. Manuel Pellegrini, back after a few days away due to a personal matter, announced Betis' squad on Wednesday for the second preseason friendly of the green-and-whites. The match will be played this afternoon in Huelva against Recreativo in the LVII Colombino Trophy. The main absence from the call-up is captain Isco Alarcón.
The Malaga native returned a couple of days before his teammates from the Germany training camp, meaning he did not participate in the preparation match that concluded the first 10 days of summer work for his team. On Monday afternoon, he rejoined training at the Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol, but given the precedents from last season, the coaching staff is taking a patient approach to his return to the pitch.
Also absent from this afternoon's match (kick-off at 8:30 PM, live on Betis TV) are:
- Antony (Brazilian) – the last to join the Germany camp, with several fewer training sessions than his teammates.
- Abde – returned this Monday and still needs to get up to speed.
Traveling with the squad are:
- Latest signing Diego Conde
- U19 European Championship winners with Spain: Manu González and Morante
- Players with uncertain futures: Deossa, Gonzalo Petit, and Iker Losada
In addition to Manu González, Morante, and regulars Ortiz and Pablo García, several youth academy players are also included: Emmanuel, Corralejo, Rica, and Borja Alonso.
Upcoming Fixtures
Betis has two preparation matches scheduled this week:
- Today: vs. Recreativo de Huelva (Colombino Trophy)
- Next Saturday: vs. Granada
Next week, the green-and-whites will begin their second training camp in Marbella, with a couple of additional preparation matches scheduled.
