Pentagon's most powerful supercomputer goes live at Naval Support Activity Monterey

The Pentagon's most powerful supercomputer, a DGX GB300 system built by NVIDIA, is now operational at Naval Support Activity Monterey, California. The machine, installed at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), combines 36 NVIDIA Grace CPUs with 72 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs to process large volumes of work in parallel, enabling advanced AI applications. A ribbon-cutting ceremony featured NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and U.S. Pacific Command commander Adm. Samuel Paparo. The supercomputer will support research in logistics, cybersecurity, and high-resolution meteorology and oceanography modeling. Capt. Michael Owen, NPS's vice provost for warfare studies, emphasized the system's role in transforming models and improving defense operations. The installation stems from a cooperative research and development agreement between NPS and NVIDIA initiated in December 2024. NPS also launched a new master's program in artificial intelligence with an initial cohort of 11 students.
