OpenAI raises planned AI infrastructure spending to $750 billion

OpenAI has increased its projected spending on computing infrastructure to approximately $750 billion through 2030, up from $600 billion earlier this year, driven by new cloud-computing deals. The company announced a $20 billion investment to build its own data center, Project Camellia, in Effingham County, Georgia, marking its first venture as principal designer and builder. OpenAI has contracted with Georgia Power for 3.2 gigawatts of power and hired Brent Mayo, formerly of xAI, to oversee data-center construction. The spending trajectory has raised internal concerns, with CFO Sarah Friar privately questioning whether revenue growth can keep pace. The company's 2026 computing expenditure is projected at $50 billion, up from $30 million in 2017. Audited financials show OpenAI lost $38.5 billion in 2025 on $13.07 billion in revenue.
